What does the “S” marking on the lens mean?
It indicates the lens category, which is classified according to the lens’s visible light transmission.
Lenses are divided into categories “S0 to S4” based on their visible light transmittance.
Lens categories depend on color: lower numbers (S0–S4) allow more visible light.
An allocation of the types of ski goggles to the shade numbers can be taken from the Following table of the European standard.
The transmission curves show that all lenses used in our ski goggles completely absorb harmful UV rays below 380 nm.
On the surface of the lens, the lens category “S0 to S4” is indicated according to the visible light transmittance value.
A standard lens displays one category, while a photochromic lens shows two categories (the category when the lens is at its brightest and the category when the lens is at its darkest).
In addition, there is a weather chart corresponding to each lens category and its characteristics. Please refer to this chart along with the category when selecting the lens best suited for your intended use.
